Indian women’s hockey team came really close to winning a bronze medal in the Olympics but their dreams were shattered as they were out beaten by Great Britain 3-4. They managed to record their best -ever finish in the Olympics.
The team had already created history by entering into the semifinals of the Games for the first time. However their opponents Great Britain who are world no 4 and who won gold in the 2016 Rio Games, came out victorious in the encounter.

India’s best performance in the Olympics before this was in the 1980 Moscow Games when they finished fourth. There were no semi-finals in that edition as only 6 teams competed in a round robin format and the top two teams went on to play the final.
The Indian team did their very best and were in fact leading 3-2 at halftime. Great Britain gave their all and were desperate to win the match. They finally scored two goals in the second half and literally snatched the match from India’s hands.
Gurjit Kaur and Vandana Katariya were the goal scorers for India.
Though team India lost the match, they won many hearts.
