India has a strong chess team for Asian Games

Five-time world champion Viswanathan Anand said that India has a strong chess team for the Asian Games and that he could not have asked for a stronger team.

Young Indian players performed extremely well at the FIDE World Cup in Baku and .Pragg made history by becoming the youngest to win a silver medal.
D.Gukesh, a protege of Anand has become the highest rated Indian player with an impressive Elo of 2758 and surpassed Anand’s rating by 4 points and ended his mentor’s 37 year long reign as Inda’s No 1 player.
Speaking at the Tata Steel Chess India at Kolkata, Anand said that there will be other good teams too participating in the Asian Games. Teams like Uzbekistan, Vietnam and China too will be fielding great contingents but India has good prospects due to the talented bunch of individuals.
India has named a 10 member squad for the Asian Games.
