Ilaiyaraaja presented with award for Vocational Excellence

Music legend Ilaiyaraaja was honoured with an award for Vocational Excellence in Coimbatore for his outstanding contribution to Indian music. The award was presented by the Rotary Club.

He is known for his contribution to music for over four decades during which he composed music for more than a thousand films in both Tamil and Telugu. During the felicitation ceremony, several organizations and industrialists paid tribute to him by presenting him with shawls and bouquets.
He was born as R.Gnanadesikan on June 3, 1943 in Pannaipuram, a village in Theni district of Tamil Nadu. He started his journey into music at a young age and captivated audiences of all ages.
He has a unique ability to blend folk music with classical music. He has composed a plethora of hit songs for films and his influence extends beyond the film industry. His music has captured a range of human emotions from joy to sorrow.
