Hindu groups in the US have sought an apology from Meena Harris, the niece of Kamala Harris for tweeting an offensive image that depicted Kamala Harris as Goddess Durga. Meena has deleted the tweet but without any apology.
Meena is a lawyer, a children’s book author and the founder of the Phenomenal Women Action Campaign that works to bring awareness to intersectional social causes. The image shows Kamala Harris depicted as Goddess Durga seen killing President Donald Trump who was depicted as a buffalo demon Mahishasura. It also depicted Democratic Presidential nominee Joe Biden as a lion – the vahana or vehicle of the Goddess. The festival of Navratri is now being celebrated across the globe.
