A woman in Rishpur village in Panipat district of Haryana was allegedly locked in a toilet by her husband for over a year. Her husband claimed that she was mentally unstable.
A team from the Women Protection and Child Marriage Prohibition Office led by officer Rajni Gupta received news about the woman being locked up and reached the spot. They rescued her and found that her physical condition was very pathetic and it appeared that she was starved for days. However, she did not seem to be mentally unstable according to Rajni Gupta. The woman’s husband claimed that there was no improvement in her condition even after giving her treatment for her mental illness and that she does not go out of the house and remains in the toilet even though she is asked to come out. A case has been registered and probe is going on. The team will consult doctors and take their advice in order to proceed further.
