Greece gets first woman President

Ekaterini Sakeliaroupolou, a senior judge with expertise in the fields of environmental and constitutional law has been elected by the Parliament of Greece as the country’s first woman President of the Republic.

The 63 year old secured the votes of 261 Members of Parliament and got a majority in her favour. Ekaterini was earlier the head of the top administrative court of Greece. She also holds the distinction of being the first woman to head the Council of State. She will be sworn in and take her oath of office on the 13th of March.
