Geoffrey Hinton who is referred to the ”Godfather of Artificial Intelligence” has warned of the dangers of AI and has asked governments and companies to consider how they can safely advance this technology and ensure that it is ethically used.
Geoffrey Hinton was employed with Google and he retired earlier this year. He is a British computer scientist and a cognitive psychologist. According to him, in a span of about 5 years, AI may be able to reason better than humans.
He fears that AI has the potential to take over humanity and that mankind is moving into a period where things are more intelligent than humans and understanding technology is just as complex as trying to understand a human mind.
AI can increase efficiency and productivity but many people can lose their jobs due to it and there may not be enough jobs to replace those that are lost.
