Nilanshi Patel from Gujarat has held the Guinness World Records title for the longest hair as a teenager since 2018. She was 16 years old at that time and the length of her hair was 170.5 cms. She cut off her locks last year after her hair grew to a length of 200 cms.
Nilanshi had a bad experience at the parlour when she was 6 years old and so she decided to stop having haircuts. She stuck to her decision for 12 years and described her long hair as her “lucky charm”. She has earned three Guinness World Records titles and was jocularly called the ‘real life Rapunzel’.

Nilanshi found it hard to decide what to do with her hair after cutting it. She had three options- to auction it, to donate it to charity or to donate it to a museum. She discussed the issue with her mother Kaminiben who told her to donate it to the museum so that it could be displayed there and be a source of inspiration to people.
A date was set to cut her hair and Nilanshi was quite nervous about how she would look in her new hairstyle. Before the first snip took place, Nilanshi kissed her hair goodbye. After her hair was fully cut, she was blindfolded and taken to a mirror and Nilanshi loved her new look.
Her hair will be shipped and sent to a museum in the USA where it will be on display at Ripley’s Believe it or Not! Hollywood and later at the Guinness World Records Museum also in Hollywood.
