Gautam Adani becomes second richest man in Asia

Indian businessman Gautam Adani has become Asia’s second richest man according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. He has overtaken Chinese billionaire Zhong Shanshan. His net worth is $66.5 billion and trails behind Mukesh Ambani from India who is the Chairman of Reliance Industries Limited.


Ambani surpassed Shanshan in February this year to become the richest man in Asia. Ambani is also the richest Indian.
Shanshan , the founder and Chairman of Nongfu Spring and also the majority owner of Beijing Wantai Biological Pharmacy was once the world’s sixth richest man. In recent months, his net worth has plummeted.
According to the global billionaires list of Bloomberg, Ambani and Adani are in the 13th and 14th positions. Ambani”s net worth is $76,5 billion and Adani’s net worth is $66.5 billion.
Gautam Adani started out as a commodities trader in the 1980’s and has built an empire over the years. It spans mines, ports, power plants, airports, data centres etc. In the past 2 years, his group gained control of seven airports, made rapid strides in renewable energy capacity, won a contract to co-develop a port terminal in Sri Lanka and also bought ports in India.
