French President Emmanuel Macron re-elected for second term

French President Emmanuel Macron has been re-elected for a second term. The 44 year old won a comfortable victory. He defeated far-right rival Marine Le Pen.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Macron and looks forward to working together with him to deepen the India-France strategic partnership.


His supporters are thrilled with his victory. Macron’s win has also been hailed globally as liberal democracy in action. The financial markets too will breathe a sigh of relief at Macron’s victory. He will become the first French President in 20 years to win a second term.
Macron in his speech stated ” the coming years won’t be easy but they will be historic. It is with ambition and goodwill for our country- for all- I will be at your side to deal with the next five years,”
