Russian financial watchdog Rosfinmonitoring has included former World Chess Champion and political activist Gary Kasparov to its list of terrorists and extremists.

Gary Kasparov has been a critic of Russian President Vladimir Putin and has been constantly criticizing his decision for Russia’s military attack on Ukraine.
Rosfinmonitoring, which is responsible for combating money laundering as well as terror financing now has the power to freeze the bank accounts of Kasparov.
The reasons for this move have not been disclosed and many human rights organizations are arguing that it is a tactic by the Kremlin to suppress dissent.
Kasparov who is considered to be one of the world’s greatest chess players has resided in the United States for more than 10 years and is engaged in political activism.
