First woman Vice-Chancellor for JNU

Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit will be the first woman Vice-Chancellor for Jawaharlal Nehru University. She was appointed to the post by the Ministry of Education.
The 59 year old Santishree is currently the Vice-Chancellor of Savitribai Phule University in Maharashtra. She is an alumna of JNU where she pursued her MPhil and PhD in International Relations.


Her appointment is for a period of 5 years and has been approved by the President Ram Nath Kovind. She will replace M.Jagadesh Kumar who was the acting VC at JNU after his 5 year term ended last year.
Santishree began her teaching career in 1988 in Goa University. She then shifted to Pune University in 1993. She has held administrative positions in a number of academic bodies. She has been a member of the University Grants Commission and the Indian Council for Social Science Research. She is also the Visitor’s nominee to central universities.
