Kavita Golecha, Classical dance instructor: I do a detox diet once a year. This is a body and mind detox because I sincerely feel doing a diet for the physical self is not enough and a very short term goal. Me being a Jain celebrates Pajushan which is essentially for only 8 days for a common Jain. But by the staunch Jains and the priests, its four months abstinence from eating any kind of food that kills even germs leave alone living creatures. The detox fast that I do is no food at all for sometimes 8-10, or sometimes 12-15 days. We are only allowed to take boiled water from sunrise to sunset, nothing after that. I have managed 12 days till now with my work and home. When we start eating again it has to be very gradual and very monitored equalling to the number of days we fast for. This is a very scientific approach and it rejuvenates me, gives me absolutely new energy, glowing skin, hair, enlightens me through lots of prayers, forgiveness and meditation which is an integral part of this practice. Rest of the year, I believe in the philosophy of moderation when it comes to eating, exercising or controlling food. In my theory, the secret to sustainability is by doing nothing in extreme.
