In order to help the agriculture industry in the wake of the staggering economic situation due to the Covid 19 pandemic, U.S. President Donald Trump has announced a financial relief package of $19 billion. This relief program would help farmers and ranchers to cope with the losses caused by the ill-effects of the pandemic. There will be direct payment to farmers, producers and ranchers who have experienced unprecedented losses.
According to Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdu, many farmers have been greatly hit after schools and restaurants closed and people were forced to eat at home. This forced them to dump milk and vegetables that were ready to market. This was not only heartbreaking but also financially distressing for them. About $3 billion of the money would go towards buying of produce and milk from the farmers to be redistributed to community food banks.
