Woman’s group Penngal Kootamaippu demanded the release of Valarmathi a student activist who was arrested last week while collecting funds for Kerala flood relief. They condemned the arrest and demanded her release. The Police on the other hand, said that while Valarmathi and four other activists were collecting funds for the Kerala flood relief, a head constable named Stalin was monitoring them and on seeing him, the group questioned his presence and allegedly attacked him.
The Women’s group condemned these allegations as lies and said that it was the police who attacked the women and arrested them. They submitted a representation to the Commissioner of Police demanding that Valarmathi be released and that the Periamet Inspector and Constable be removed from service.
