Delhi Court rejects Nirbhaya convicts plea

Mukesh Singh, one of the four death row convicts in the Nirbhaya gang rape and murder case filed a petition seeking to quash his death penalty as he alleged that he was not in Delhi on the day of the incident. He also alleged that he was tortured in Tihar Jail. The Public Prosecutor informed the court that it was another tactic to delay the hanging on March 20th. The court dismissed the petition and directed the Bar Council of India to give appropriate sensitisation to M.L. Sharma, the counsel for convict Mukesh.

Meanwhile the National Human Rights Commission dismissed a petition filed by the mother of Mukesh Singh to intervene and prevent the death sentence to be carried out. In another development, the wife of Akshay, one of the convicts has filed a petition for divorce in  a court in Aurangabad district in Northeast Bihar.
