There has been a steep increase in the price of LPG cylinders which has been increased by Rs 57.50. It is now priced at Rs 896. This steep increase has hit the lower income group. With the increased fuel prices, and now the increased prices of LPG cylinders, people are finding it difficult to run their families.

State run oil marketing companies have been pushing a large number of free connections to tribal people under the Prime Minister’s Ujwala Scheme. The beneficiaries include Forest dwellers, SCs, STs, and people living in river islands. On an average, 3.5 lakh cylinders are distributed a day and the tax collection would be around Rs 38.50 crores, half of which would go to the State government and the other half to the Centre. If this amount is reduced, the consumers will get some relief.
