Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdury came under a lot of criticism for his ‘rastrapatni’ remark on President Draupadi Murmu. He wrote a letter to the President apologising and said that the remark was a slip of the tongue.

This issue rocked Parliament and the BJP MP’s and Union Ministers Smriti Irani and Nirmala Sitharaman demanded that Congress President Sonia Gandhi should apologise for Chowdhury’s remark. They even raised slogans and demanded the resignation of Sonia Gandhi.
Chowdhury wrote a letter of apology to the President and said that this issue was being blown out of proportion by the BJP. He also asked why Congress President Sonia Gandhi was being dragged into this controversy. He said he was willing to meet the President in person and apologise if she feels bad about the issue and was ready to face any punishment.
