Boxer Lovlina wins bronze medal for India

Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain has done the country proud by winning a bronze medal in her debut Olympic Games.
She faced reigning world champion Busenaz Surmeneli from Turkey and was totally dominated by her. She lost 0-5 to Busenaz.


Lovlina who hails from Assam faced a one-point deduction in the second round for not paying attention to the referee’s instructions despite a couple of cautions.
Lovlina however stated that she could not execute what she had planned and that she could have performed better.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated her on winning a bronze medal and praised her tenacity and determination. He also conveyed his best wishes to her for all her future endeavours. Many others have also congratulated her.
The 23 year old Lovlina has made history by becoming the third Indian boxer to ensure a podium finish after Vijender Singh in 2008 and Mary Kom in 2012.
