Birth Anniversary of Poet Subramani Bharathi

Yesterday was the  138th birth anniversary of Poet Subramani Bharathi. He was honoured at his memorial in Ettiahpuram by the Tamilnadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit. It was recalled that the poet had advocated and campaigned for women’s participation in politics.
His literary works kindled the spirit of nationalism and his writings were rich in content. The Governor praised the initiative taken by freedom fighter, journalist and renowned novelist Kalki R. Krishnamoorthy for constructing a memorial for Bharathi at his native in Ettiahpuram, Thoothukudi district.. It was built with the contribution of the public and without any financial assistance of the government. The memorial stands as a symbol of nationalism and as a temple of Tamil literature.
