Bhutan King Jigme Wangchuk will be visiting India today. He will be accompanied by Bhutan’s foreign minister Dr. Tandi Dorji and other senior officials. The 3 day visit comes at the invitation of President Droupadi Murmu.
The visit will give both India and Bhutan an opportunity to evaluate their bilateral cooperation and to advance their bilateral partnership.

During his visit, the King will call on the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the President Droupadi Murmu.
India has been a top trading partner of Bhutan and is the primary source of investments. India has also been assisting Bhutan’s socio-economic development since the 1960’s when the five year plans were launched there.
The basic framework of India-Bhutan relations is the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation signed by both the countries in 1949 and renewed in 2007. The bilateral ties have been maintained by regular high-level exchanges between both countries.
