Justice D.Y. Chandrachud is one of the judges in the Supreme Court bench which heard the bail application of Republic T.V.s editor-in – chief Arnab Goswami. It happened to be the birthday of the judge and he declared that it was the best way to spend his birthday as he was in court judging, thereby doing what he loved the most.
The judge turned 61 and was greeted by fellow judges and lawyers. Arnab Goswami was granted bail by the Supreme Court which held that it always lays emphasis on protection of personal liberty and if the State targets individuals, the apex court is there to protect them. It also asked the High Courts not to fall short in exercising constitutional safeguards in protecting personal liberty. Arnab was released from the Taloja jail at 8.30 p.m yesterday.
