Due to uterine cancer, Sowmya had to undergo removal of uterus and the left ovary.Her surgical oncologist preserved her right ovary and moved it to the abdominal wall underneath the skin. Five years later she became a mother through surrogacy.
Fertility specialists extracted the eggs and fertilized it. As she was childless, she was referred to GG Hospital in August 2016 where she was put on stimulant injections and doctors used a syringe to extract the eggs through the skin of the patient’s abdomen. They were implanted in a surrogate in 2018. The baby girl was born on February 16th. Doctors said that this was the country’s first surrogate birth following egg extraction from an ovary transpositioned under the skin
