A woman pilot on the Ahmedabad-Delhi Vistara Airlines flight averted a tragedy that would have struck Delhi airport. The Ahmedabad-Delhi flight had just landed and was instructed by Air Traffic Control to cross an active runway to reach the parking bay. Meanwhile, another Vistara Airlines Delhi-Bagdogra flight was given permission to take off on the same runway.

A major collision was averted due to the alertness of Sonu Gill, a 45 year old Captain on the Ahmedabad-Delhi flight.

The planes were just 1800 metres apart and if the pilot had not warned Air Traffic Control of the presence of the other aircraft, there would have been a disaster.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has derostered the ATC official responsible for this lapse.
