The Supreme Court Collegium led by Chief Justice of India Dipak Mishra, unanimously recommended the name of Senior Advocate Indu Malhotra for direct elevation from the bar to the bench. This is said to be a historic decision.
Known for her hard work, sincerity and diligence, Ms Malhotra will be the seventh woman judge in the Supreme Court She was born in 1956 in Bengaluru to noted advocate Om Prakash Malhotra.She joined the legal profession in 1983 and secured first position in Advocate on Record exam for the Supreme Court. In 2007, she became the second woman to be designated a Senior Advocate. This direct elevation is seen as a welcome move and will open up a lot of opportunities for women in the legal field.
