Vinesh Phogat, wrestler turned politician has announced pregnancy. She is expecting her first child with husband Somvir Rathee. Vinesh conveyed this news on Instagram.
She retired from wrestling following the setback she suffered at the Paris Olympics in 2024 when she was disqualified just hours ahead of the women’s freestyle 50 kgs final bout as she was found to be a mere 100 grams overweight and weighed more than the 50 kg weight limit for the event.
Vinesh had announced her retirement from wrestling and has joined politics. She tied the knot with fellow wrestler Somvir Rathee in 2018.
She contested in the recent elections and won the Julana constituency in the Haryana elections. She defeated Captain Yogesh Bairagi from the BJP.
Fellow professional wrestlers Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik sent in their congratulations after hearing of Vinesh’s pregnancy.
