A 45 year old woman from Trichy delivered her 11th baby at her home. The woman named Shanthi had a normal delivery. Her neighbour served as a midwife.
Both the mother and daughter were fine and were admitted to a primary health centre after officials from the health department convinced her. The woman had agreed to undergo sterilization but demanded laparascopic sterilization. However this could be done only after 40 days after the delivery. Meanwhile her newborn baby girl was immunized. Shanthi is the mother of nine children and out of her 11 kids, two died.
