Teenager becomes youngest judge in Massachusetts

Henry Buckley who is just 16 years in age has created history by becoming the youngest judge and has challenged perceptions about the role of youth in public service.

The teenager from Hingham in Massachusetts was sworn in as a Justice of the Peace along with other officials who were more than double his age.
Henry got four signatures on an application and a reference letter from a member of his community. He submitted the application to the Governor’s office.
Governor Maura T Healey nominated Harry and the application was sent to the Governor’s Council where he was unanimously affirmed. He then received his commission and was formally sworn in as a Justice of the Peace.
Justice of the Peace appointeesserve for seven years and perform a number of duties including notarizing documents, conducting marriages, taking dispositions and even maintaining public order if necessary.
