Sudha Murty, an author, philanthropist and a Rajya Sabha member has been conferred with the Justice KS Hegde Charitable Foundation Award for her contribution to literature and social service.Her contribution towards empowering women and the youth was also taken into consideration.
The award ceremony took place at the Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology campus in Bengaluru.
In her acceptance speech, Sudha Murty spoke on the impermanence of material wealth and stressed on the impact of social contributions. She stated that ”Only the sacrifices we make for society will truly last.”
The foundation which has been established in honour of Justice KS Hegde, a former Supreme Court judge and Speaker of the Lok Sabha, recognises societal contributions made by individuals and a felicitation function is held every year on June 11.
