Rohit Sharma announces retirement from Test cricket

The Indian cricket team will get a new captain as Rohit Sharma has announced his retirement from Test cricket with immediate effect. He will however continue to play for India in the ODI format.

According to reports, he announced his retirement on May 7, Wednesday after reports of him being sacked as Test captain went viral.The 38 year old cricketer scored 4301 runs in 67 Tests with 12 hundreds and 18 half centuries. He has an average of 40.57 runs.
Rohit Sharma while announcing his retirement, took the opportunity to thank people for their love and support over all the years. He said that it was an honour for him to represent India in the Test cricket format. He released his statement on his Instagram handle.
The selectors are looking for a new captain for the England tour and they want to groom a leader for the future. Some players who may be the choice of captain are Jasprit Bumrah, the vice-captain, Shubman Gill, KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant.
