Kannada actress Ranya Rao who was arrested at the Bengaluru airport last week for smuggling over 14 kilograms of gold into the country has alleged that she was denied the right to sleep.
Her lawyer Kiran Javali has filed a petition for bail in the special court dealing with economic offences. Ranya Rao has also alleged that she was verbally tortured and threatened while in custody.
The 33 year old actress was not made aware of her rights at the time of her arrest and there were multiple protocol violations when the team from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence took her into custody just as she was leaving the Bengaluru airport.
Incidentally Ranya is the stepdaughter of Ramachandra Rao, a senior police officer serving as Chairman and Managing Director of the Karnataka State Police Housing Corporation.
