Catholics across the globe lost their religious leader Pope Francis who passed away on Easter Monday at the age of 88. He was battling health issues and was recuperating after a 5 week stay in the hospital.
Pope Francis who was the first Latin American pontiff charmed the world with his humble nature and deep concern for the poor. He became pope in 2013 after his predecessor Pope Benedict XVI resigned.
He made an appearance on the balcony at Saint Peter’s Basilica on Easter Sunday and delighted many worshippers. Earlier, Hh met the US Vice President JD Vance on April 19.
Pope Francis will be the first pope in more than 100 years to be buried outside the Vatican. He expressed his desire to be buried in Rome’s Santa Maria Maggiore Basilica.
He also rejected the tradition of having three coffins but desired to have just one simple wooden and zinc coffin to reflect his role as a humble pastor.
