The Reserve Bank of India has appointed Poonam Gupta, a former World Bank economist as its deputy director just ahead of its bi-monthly monetary policy committee meeting to be held between April 7 to 9.
She will hold the position for a period of three years. Poonam Gupta is currently the Director General of the National Council of Applied Economic Research.
She is also a member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister and acts as the Convenor for the Advisory Council to the 16th Finance Commission.
She joined the National Council of Applied Economic Research in 2021 and took with her two decades of rich experience that she gained in senior roles at the International Monetary Fund as well as the World Bank in Washington DC.
Poonam Gupta also held teaching positions at the Delhi School of Economics, at the University of Maryland in USA and was also a visiting faculty member at the Indian Statistical Institute in Delhi.
