King Charles III posts throwback photo on Father’s Day

Father’s Day was observed on June 18, the third Sunday of June and King Charles III shared a photo of himself with Prince William and Prince Harry that was taken in August 1997. He captioned the post with the words ”To Dads everywhere, we wish you a very special Father’s Day today.”

The King also posted pictures of himself with his father the late Prince Philip and Queen Camilla with her late father Bruce Shand.
The picture of King Charles with his sons was taken on August 16, 1997, just about two weeks before they lost Princess Diana. The Princes were on a holiday with their father at Balmoral Castle in Scotland. They were supposed to meet their mother Princess Diana on August 31, the day she died in a car crash in Paris.
This symbolic post and pictures have come at a time when the relationship between King Charles III and his son Prince Harry is not very smooth.

German court rejects custody plea of Indian biological parents

A district court in Pankow, Germany, has denied the custody of 28 month old  Ariha Shah to her Indian biological parents and has instead handed the child over to a German youth services named Jugendamt.

The court rejected the application of Dhara and Bhavesh Shah to return the child either directly to them or to the Indian Welfare Services. The court instead awarded Ariha’s custody to Jugendamt. The court also observed that the parents are no longer authorised to decide on the whereabouts of the child.
The parents of Ariha initially filed for custody of the child but later requested that the child be given to the Indian Welfare Services. The court however, rejected the plea for custody to Ariha’s parents or the Indian Welfare Services. The reason for this rejection was the injuries the child had suffered on her head, back and a genital injury as well. The court wanted to avert any danger to the child. Therefore, it only granted visitation rights to the parents twice a month with accompanied contact.

Little Malti Marie, daughter of Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas was seen playing with an expensive designer bag. The bag is from Bulgari’s Serpenti collection. It is green in colour and features a metallic serpent closure. The bag is a small cross-body bag in emerald green leather with an amethyst purple grosgrain lining. It has a snakehead closure in light gold plated brass embellished with black and white agate enamel scales and green malachite eyes. It is said to be worth around 2.45 lakhs.

Priyanka Chopra is a brand ambassador for Bulgari. The actress recently shared some pictures of her family vacation at Liverpool and the picture that got the most attention was the one in which Malti Marie was playing with the tiny pastel green bag. No interim bail granted to TN Minister Senthil Balaji

The Madras High Court has rejected a plea for interim bail for Tamil Nadu Electricity Minister V.Senthil Balaji. The court however allowed the Minister to be shifted to a private hospital for an emergency bypass surgery.

Justices J.Nisha Banu and D. Bharatha Chakravarthy passed the order in a habeas corpus petition filed by the Minister’s wife S.Megala. The court ruled that the Minister shall continue to be in judicial custody.
Senthil Balaji, a minister in the DMK government in Tamil Nadu was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with a cash-for-job case on Wednesday. The charges related to his tenure as the transport minister during the AIADMK rule from 2011 to 2015.
The Court permitted a panel of doctors from the Omandurar government hospital to examine Senthil Balaji at Kauvery Hospital, rejected the plea for bail and posted the matter on June 22.

Sad news for movie buffs. Prarthana Theatre shuts down

India’s first beach drive-in theatre Prarthana has shut down operations and is making way for a residential complex. This iconic landmark of Chennai which had both a theatre and a restaurant complex was developed by N.Devanathan in 1991. Located on East Coast Road, the theatre had an open air movie viewing experience. It also had an indoor theatre, Aradhana in its premises.

The theatre has now been acquired by a real estate developer Baashyaam Group. Demolition of the theatre has begun and a huge residential complex will come up here.
Many people are disappointed about this move as they have nostalgic memories of watching movies in the open air. Prarthana had a 4,500 sq ft giant screen and elevated ramps and dedicated bay for each car. Besides this, there was a 500 seater gallery for those who did not want to watch from inside their cars.

Sheila Singh runs MS Dhoni’s Rs 800 crore production house

Wife of TN Minister Senthil Balaji files Habeas Corpus plea in Madras High Court

Tamil Nadu Minister V Senthil Balaji was arrested in a money laundering case filed against him by the Enforcement Directorate. He complained of uneasiness and chest pain and was taken to the Government Medical College, Omandur, Government Estate in Chennai.

Meanwhile S.Megala, wife of the Minister, has moved a writ of Habeas Corpus before the Madras High Court against her husband’s arrest. The matter was mentioned this morning before a bench of Justices M. Sindar and R Sakthivel by Senior Advocate NR Elango who stated that the arrest was done without any notice or summons.
The court directed the petitioner to get the case numbered and mention it again at 1.30 p.m.
The Minister was arrested after being questioned by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering case that related to the year 2011 to 2015 when he was transport minister in the AIADMK government before he joined the DMK.

Indian billionaire Pankaj Oswal buys one of the world’s most expensive houses

Billionaire couple Pankaj and Radhika Oswal have bought one of the world’s most expensive homes situated in the Swiss village of Gingins, which is 15 minutes from Geneva. The home Villa Vari cost around $ 200 million and is an architectural masterpiece.

The mansion originally belonged to Greek businesswoman, socialite Christina Onassis. The house has been lavishly transformed and the interiors have been redone under the direction of renowned interior designer Jeffrey Wilkes.

The Oswal family is worth over 3 billion USD and has a business conglomerate that includes petrochemicals, real estate, fertilisers and mining.
The mansion is 40,000 square metres in size and overlooks the snow covered summits of Mount Blanc.
The couple has two daughters Vasundhara, 24, and Ridi, 18. The family has been living in Switzerland for the past 10 years and are now settled in their new home.

PM Modi to dine with the Bidens at the White House

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been invited by US President Joe Biden and his wife Jill Biden for an official state visit. It is reported that  Biden is planning to host an intimate dinner for PM Modi but the venue has not been disclosed.

 

PM Modi is expected to visit Washington on June 21, after attending the International Yoga Day celebrations at the United Nations headquarters.
The number of guests for the State Dinner remains a secret but is said to be larger than 120 that can be accommodated in the State Dining Room of the White House.
There is great enthusiasm among the Indian-Americans about PM Modi’ s visit. Hundreds of people are preparing to travel to Washington DC next week to take part in various events related to the visit. Due to this, there has been a surge in the price of hotel rooms and flight tickets.
A historic welcome ceremony will take place at the White House on June 22.

Fans of Shah Rukh Khan create Guinness World Record

Around 300 of actor Shah Rukh Khan performed the actor’s popular romantic pose with outstretched arms while gathering outside his bungalow, Mannat in Bandra. The record was given to Star Gold India who organised the fan event.

Shah Rukh is said to have come out of the balcony to greet and congratulate fans who created the Guinness World record for the most number of people performing the iconic Shah Rukh Khan pose simultaneously. It was the greatest gift for his fans who have repeatedly demonstrated their love for the actor.
This is not the first time that Shah Rukh has popped out of the balcony to connect with his fans. He usually greets his fans on the occasions of Eid, Diwali or the release date of some of his movies. The actor is said to have a large and. loyal fanbase.

Man who stayed at 5-star hotel and refuses to pay bill, arrested

A man from Delhi stayed with his family in a 5-star hotel in Lutyens Delhi. They booked two single rooms on May 28 and stayed there till June 3. He enjoyed all the services of the hotel including food and the bar as well. However, he refused to pay the bill of Rs 3.65 lakh.

When the hotel authorities asked for payment, he showed some fraudulent UTR numbers and claimed that he paid Rs 6.5 lakhs via bank transfer.
The hotel authorities checked to see if there was any such transaction but they found none. When the hotel staff confronted him, he refused to pay the amount, abused them, threatened the staff that he would call the police and frame false allegations against them and even damaged hotel property. Therefore an FIR was registered against him under section 420 IPC (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property). A case has also been registered against the man and his family for availing the hotel services and refusing to pay the bill. Investigations are going on.

4 children survive in Amazon forest for 40 days

Four siblings aged 13, 9 4 and an infant, who survived a small plane crash on May 1, survived for 40 days in the Columbian Amazon. They ate seeds, roots and plants that were edible to stay alive. They also managed to get hold of yucca flour from relief parcels that were dropped by search helicopters.

The plane crashed on May 1 and the pilot, the mother of the 4 children and one more adult lost their lives. The children were familiar with the jungle and their family was hopeful that they would survive.
More than 80 volunteers from indigenous territories in the departments of Caqueta, Putumayo, Meta and Amazinas joined around 100 soldiers in ”Operation Hope” It was said to be an unusual union of forces.
Authorities were able to locate the children after they heard the cries of the youngest child, an infant. They were provided with treatment by a pediatrician and neonatologist on board and later treated at the military hospital.
