Titled Nazar, Rohit Bal’s collection is actually representative of a subtle and gentle play on tonal shades of ivory and glimpses of gold. Organic in its structure and form it is based on the age old concept of the Jharoka. The patterns and motifs of this collection are inspired by jaalis and antique marble screens. The ensembles are layered with fabrics like muslin, chanderi and voiles. There is tonal embroidery with ample and generous use of gold. Silver and gold sequins lend a gentle and serene sparkle to the otherwise understated and demure feminine feel of this couture collection. The men strut about like gilded peacocks, in their opulent and glamorous brocades. It is as if being transported into the durbar of a kingdom long lost to the ravages of time only to be born again even if it’s just only for a moment, one Nazar.
