New Delhi is likely to hold the FIDE World Cup later this year. This will mark the return of this prestigious event to the country after a very long gap of more than two decades.

The previous time that India hosted the FIDE Chess World Cup was in Hyderabad in the year 2002 in which Viswanathan Anand emerged victorious.
The other big chess event that India hosted was the Chess Olympiad in 2022 wherein Chennai stepped in to be the host country at the last moment.
The Chess World Cup is held biannually and is considered to be one of the most high profile tournaments in chess. It is a knockout tournament in which more than 200 players will take part.
The previous edition of the Chess World Cup was won by Magnus Carlsen with India’s Praggnanandhaa Rameshbabu finishing as the runner-up.
The dates for the event have been fixed from October 31 to November 27, 2025.
