Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu set a world record with a marathon 15- hour press conference on Saturday that began at 10 am and stretched past midnight. He broke the previous record of 14 hours that was set by the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in 2016. President Muizzu answered the questions posed by the public, by journalists and made brief pauses for prayers.
In October 2016, Zelensky held a 14 hour press conference and broke an earlier record of over 7 hours set by Belarussian strongman Alexander Lukashenko.
Mohamed Muizzo came to power in 2023 and marked the island nation’s rise by two places to 104th out of 180 countries in the 2025 World Press Freedom Index.
He confirmed that there are no serious concerns with the bilateral agreements between the Maldives and India. President Muizzu said that he was working in line with his pledge to disclose the military agreements.
