The Economic Offences Court rejected the bail application of Kannada actress Ranya Rao in the gold smuggling case when the matter came up on Friday. The bail petition was rejected due to the seriousness of charges against the actress.
The court presided over by Judge Vishwanath C Gowdar, agreed with the arguments of the prosecution that Ranya should remain in judicial custody. Ranya first filed a bail application in the Magistrate Court but it was rejected. The actress is in judicial custody and interrogations are going on into her alleged involvement in the smuggling racket. Her lawyers are now planning to move the Sessions Court to get bail.The second accused in the case Tarun Konduru also filed a bail application in the matter and it will be taken up at 3 pm tomorrow. Tarun is said to have played a key role in the smuggling operation and the authorities are linking him to international networks.
