Bina Agarwal, an Indian economist has won the first Global Inequality Research Award for her ”groundbreaking work in the field of social and environmental inequalities.”
This award recognises researchers from all disciplines for significant contributions done in the understanding of global inequalities.
The ceremony was held at the Paris School Of Economics recently and Bina Agarwal received the award from French economist and professor Thomas Piketty.
The ceremony was followed by a lecture by Bina Agarwal on ”Hidden Inequalities Visible Outcomes, A Gender Lens”
She is also a Padma Shri awardee and the author of an award winning book ”A Field of One’s Own.”
Bina is a professor of Development Economics and Environment at the GDI, the University of Manchester. She was formerly a professor and director at the Institute of Economic Growth, Delhi.
