Indian astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla was selected as one of the four astronaut candidates for India’s Gaganyaan mission. He underwent intensive training at Russia’s Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Centre.
He is now ready for his maiden mission to Space Station as part of the Axiom-4 crew after completing training with SpaceX in California.
The private spacelight scheduled for May 25, is organized by Axion Space in collaboration with NASA, SpaceX and ISRO.
Shukla will be accompanied on this 14 day mission by Commander Peggy Whitson, a veteran NASA astronaut, Sawosz Uznański-Winiewski, a European Space Agency project astronaut from Poland and Tibor Kapu from Hungary.
The astronauts will conduct 7 experiments developed by Indian institutions focusing on cognitive effects of screen use, microbial adaptation, muscle atrophy, crop resilience in microgravity etc. Shukla plans to perform yoga aboard the ISS.
