Grandmaster Vidit Gujrathi married Nidhi Kataria in a fairytale wedding celebration held on April 2 at the luxurious Oxford Golf Resort in Pune. Vidit who is 30 years old is ranked 25th in the world while Nidhi is 28 and is a homeopathic doctor.
The couple got engaged in November last year and their wedding has been a highly anticipated event in chess circles.
A number of grandmasters and prominent chess players from around the globe attended the wedding. The 15th World Champion Viswanathan Anand and the 18th World Champion Gukesh Dommaraju were seen having a whale of a time on the dance floor.
GM Anish Gri and his wife IM Sopiko Guramishvili travelled all the way from the Netherlands to attend the wedding. They arrived early so that they could go shopping for traditional clothing.
There was a big gathering and prominent chess players were seen. Vidit will be seen in the Freestyle Chess Grand Slam in Paris that begins on April 7 and he hopes to celebrate his honeymoon in Paris.
