In a first of its kind a musical fusion of Tamil Gaana, rap and rock was held in India in a stadium packed to the rafters. The Casteless Collective had several gaana singers from Chennai and a rap band from Mumbai. They performed 20 Tamil songs with live instruments and enthralled the audience with their performance.
This show was an initiative of filmmaker Pa Ranjith of Kabali fame. He said that his aim was to bring unsung heroes to the spotlight. Our society is divided by caste so also art forms are split. He said that all forms of art of Tamil Nadu should come under one umbrella without any differentiation. The Casteless Collective was a small beginning towards a larger goal.
