Former ISRO Chairman passes away in Bengaluru

Dr. Kasturirangan, former chairman of ISRO passed away in Bengaluru at the age of 84. He played a pivotal role in the development of the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle which went on to become India’s most reliable satellite launcher.

He led ISRO for over 9 years and stepped down from office on August 27, 2003. He was awarded with the prestigious awards of Padma Shri, Padma Vibushan and the Padma Bhushan.
He passed away at 10.43 am this morning. His body will be kept at Raman Research Institute in Bengaluru on Sunday April 27, between 10 am and noon for the public to pay their last respects.
PM Modi said that he was deeply sad to hear the news of the death of the visionary leader.
Dr. Kasthurirangan also served as chancellor of the Jawaharlal Nehru University and was amember of the Rajya Sabha from 2003 to 2009 and even a member of the then Planning Commission of India.
