Air India plane crashes near Ahmedabad airport

An Air India aircraft-Boeing 787-8 carrying 242  passengers crashed near Ahmedabad airport on Thursday afternoon. Rescue operations are going on. The flight was from Ahmedabad to London and crashed within minutes after taking off from the Ahmedabad airport.

The plane crashed into a hostel for doctors of a medical college at 1.30 pm. According to officials, the pilot sent a mayday call and after that there was no response.
Visuals from the site of the crash showed thick grey smoke rising from the ground. Around 24 ambulances arrived at the scene and were taking the injured people to a nearby hospital.
Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu has stated that he is personally monitoring the situation and that he directed all aviation and emergency response agencies to take swift action.
Meanwhile DNA tests are being done to identify the remains of the victims. Air India is organizing two relief flights from Delhi and Mumbai to Ahmedabad for the families of passengers of the crashed plane and Air India staff.
