Rain causes havoc in Kerala with death toll rising to 35!

Three shutters of Idukki Dam are to be opened tomorrow at 11am 

Ten dams have been put on red alert as rain wrecks havoc in Kerala. The weekend saw almost the whole of Kerala receiving heavy rainfall. Kottayam, Pathanamthitta and Idukki faced floods and landslides with almost 35 people losing their lives and many homes being completely damaged. People have been moved to relief camps as an alarming number of homes have been flooded. Tomorrow three shutters of Idukki dam are to be opened that would release 1 lakh litres of water per second. People living on the banks of Periyar have been asked to be on high alert. More rain is expected from Wednesday which may continue until Sunday. Colleges that were meant to be opened this week will reopen only on 25th of this month due to heavy remains.
