Music college inaugurated in Mumbai in honour of Lata Mangeshkar

On the event of the 93rd birth anniversary of legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Eknath Shinde inaugurated a music college named after her in the Kalina Campus of the University of Mumbai yesterday. The melody queen passed away on February 6th.


The name of the college is Bharat Ratna Lata Dinanath Mangeshkar International Music College. It is reported that 7,000 sqm of land at Kalina is being handed over to the Culture Department for building the college. Many senior ministers including the Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis were present at the inauguration.
The University will offer six certificate courses of one year each in Hindustani classical music, Indian flute, tabla, sitar, harmonium, keyboard and sound engineering. It will be launched with 150 students initially.
