The Madras High Court pulled up the Greater Chennai Corporation for not taking adequate steps to prevent flooding in the city during the heavy rain.
Chennai, Chengalpet, Kanchipuram and Thiruvallur districts have received heavy rainfall since Saturday and is said to be the heaviest in recent years. Many roads and lanes are flooded and some areas do not even have power supply.

More rain has been predicted and an alert has been issued for people living in low-lying areas of the state.
Greater Chennai Corporation has deployed 23,000 personnel to clear waterlogging. Even the subways have been flooded. Out of the 16 that were flooded with water, water has been drained out of 14 of them.
The High Court wanted to know what the authorities were doing since the devastating floods that took place in 2015. It warned of suo moto proceedings if the situation was not brought under control.
