The UK is slowly adapting to its new head of state. Earlier. all coins, currency notes and stamps had the image of the late Queen Elizabeth. Now they will be replaced with the image of King Charles.
Anne Jessopp, the Chief Executive Officer at the Royal Mint said that” the first coins bearing the effigy of His Majesty King Charles III will enter circulation in line with demand from banks and post offices”. However, the replacement process will take time as there are around 27 billion coins bearing the effigy of the late queen. They will be in circulation in the UK for many years to come.
According to the Bank of England, bank notes with a portrait of King Charles will enter circulation by the middle of 2024.
The Royal Mail stated that stamps would be updated to feature the King’s image and will enter circulation when the current stock gets exhausted. All the existing currency and stamps with the queen’s image will remain valid.
