Indian origin Suella Braverman is UK’s new home secretary

British Prime Minister Liz Truss has appointed Suella Braverman, a barrister of Indian origin as the new home secretary of the UK. She will replace Priti Patel also of Indian origin.
Suella is the daughter of a Hindu Tamil mother Uma and a Goan father Christie Fernandes. Her mother migrated to the UK from Mauritius and her father migrated from Kenya in the 1960’s


.Suella served as the attorney general in the Boris Johnson led government. She was elected as the Conservative MP for Fareham in May 2015. She was also one of the contenders to replace Boris Johnson but after she was knocked out in the second round, she backed Liz Truss and has now been rewarded with one of the highest offices in the UK government. She married Rael Braverman in 2018.
