The doctor’s body warn that tourism and pilgrimage needs to be controlled

“With the global evidence available and the history of any pandemics, the third wave is inevitable and imminent…However, it is painful to note…in many parts of the country both the government and public are complacent and engaged in mass gatherings without following Covid protocols,” said a press note released by IMA.  “Tourist bonanza, pilgrimage travel, religious fervour are all needed but can wait for a few more months. Opening up these rituals and enabling people without vaccination to go scot-free in these mass gatherings are potential super spreaders for the Covid third wave,” said the press note. Doctors warned that the next 2-3 months are crucial.

Last week, Dr Maria Van Kerkhove, American infectious disease epidemiologist who specializes in emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases based in the Health Emergencies Program at the World Health Organization warned that the COVID-19 situation globally is very dangerous with high levels of transmission driven by four major factors – virus variants, increased social mixing and mobility of people, inappropriate use of public health & social measures and vaccine inequity. She encouraged people to use the tools available to fight the virus – vaccine, masks, sanitisers and social distancing.
